The
NEA Hispanic Caucus
is organizing in new and innovative ways. Our digital organizing initiative spotlights the launch of our newly created online fundraising platform. This platform will be used to sell our Social & Racial Organizing Apparel in an effort to provide much needed scholarships for NEA Aspiring Educators of Color. Here’s a sneak-peek at our newest apparel.
Educators/ & Latinos for Black Lives Matter
The NEA Hispanic Caucus is excited to showcase our newest addition to our racial and social justice organizing gear series. This artistic masterpiece spotlights one of Latin America's most gifted and talented artists and incorporates elements created by our own textile experts.
At the center of our logo is the beautiful artistic rendering created by Latin American artist Irving Cano. "El Puño" or "the fist" is a portion of Irving's original masterpiece. His original work of art was created to showcase the struggle of educators in Oaxaca, Mexico, where 43 Mexican student teachers and early career educators were assassinated for demanding fair treatment and compensation. Surrounding the fist is our Black Lives Matter statement encapsulated by the four colors of black history. This artistic rendering is beautifully finished with a native tapestry reminding us that we all reside on stolen native land. Our newest organizing masterpiece is intended to highlight the intersectionality of our struggle in our fight for racial and social justice in defense of Black Lives.
Please Note: Profits from the sale of our Educators/Latinos for Black Lives Matter items will be used to fund scholarships for NEA Aspiring Educators of color with a percentage of the profit earmarked as a donation to the NEA Black Caucus Reg Weaver Scholarship. The NEA Hispanic Caucus does not profit from the creation of our organizing gear but instead uses it to highlight the struggle, amplify the message, and organize to dismantle systemic patterns of inequality.
The NEA Hispanic Caucus is organizing in new and innovative ways to support our ethnically/racially diverse communities. This is not work done in isolation but instead a combined effort between activists, allies, and organizational leaders. This is a "TEAM" effort.
We are in this together.
